Aliaksei Shydlouski: Some of Us Might Not Have Made It Out
Youth leader Aliaksei Shydlouski was released from Akrestsina detention center. The activist was detained by police before the Freedom Day. “I was detained many times, but that time I was really impressed by insolence of the police. They detained me near the doors of my apartment building saying: “we need you at the police station for 20 minutes”. The moment we came to the police station they ordered: “take off your laces, belt and watch”. – told Aliaksei Shydlouski to Charter’97 press center.
The youth leader said the cell where he served his term had a broken window. The night temperature in the cell was close to zero degrees Celsius.
“There was nothing surprising about the term, with the exclusion of one incident. Some of us might not have made it out of the jail. One day, at 5 a.m. a huge window-frame fell down on the “stage” where Young Front members and I slept. We could be injured by the glass! The jail administration failed to fix frame which fell down. For almost 3 days the night temperature in the cell was close to zero”, -- the youth leader said.
Aliaksei Shydlouski had flu when he was detained. After the detention center he feels even worse.
