Mass Arrests Of People Carried Out In Minsk

Yesterday in Minsk at 7 p.m. near Yakub Kolas square about 30 young activists and common citizens were arrested. A flash-mob Ideal Citizens was planned by the movement Initsiativa on the square at that time.

Young activists were to gather on the square with put bandages over their eyes and mouths.

The movement Initsiativa has announced the aim of the protest: The civil society that has emerged in the period after the elections, is not disappearing, its gaining force, and its activists are starting to free other citizens from their state of being ideal. They turn them into free citizens of a sovereign Republic of Belarus, who can say all they think, to listen to what they want to hear and to see what they should see.

A half an hour before the flash-mob dozens of riot policemen in mufti gathered on the square. When people came to the monument of Yakub Kolas, they were immediately detained and placed to a bus.

The detainees were taken to the police department of Savetski district. They were kept there for three hours. Reports havent been drawn up against them, but young activists have lodged complaints about rude behaviour of riot policemen and for illegal arrests.
