This year Hrodna authorities created a commission in order to consider turning Bukaus public museum to a state-owned one. The creator of the museum Mikali Melnikau received a letter from Valiantsin Liavonau, vice-chair of the towns Executive Committee, with a request to pass the collected items to the local historical museum. However, Melnikau is not satisfied with the decision. He is going to meet with Maryia Birukova, a town official who is in charge of ideology issues in Hrodna.

After Bykaus death the citizens of the town asked to name one of the streets in honor of the famous writer, as well as to erect a monument and create a museum. The authorities promised to put a memorial tablet on the house where Bukau lived for nearly 25 years, but failed to keep their word.
