Homel: Three Youth Activists Are under Arrest
According to Radio Racyja
On 6 May the judge of Homel Tsentralny Borough Court Maryna Damnenka sentenced the youth activists Andrei Douzhyk and Iury Trapachou to 7 days of jail and Aksana Serhienka - to 15 days for ‘swearing’ (petty hooliganism, article #156 of the Code of Administrative Violations) and ‘disobedience to the police claims (article #166). In addition, Ms Serhienka was accused of distribution of printed editions that contained no imprint (article #173). We should remind that the activists were detained on 1 May, while handing out fly-sheets on behalf of the unregistered social movement Together. The flyers explained the essence of the contract system of employment and called workers to stand for their rights. Neither the activists nor their parents expected such a violent sentence, the more that A.Douzhyk, Iu.Trapachou and A.Serhienka spent 2 days in Homel isolator before the trial. It is already the second imprisonment for Aksana Serhienka for 2006 - at the end of March this 20-year-old girl spent 4 days in the detention center in Minsk as a defender of the tent camp.
