Hrodna: Action of Wheelchair Invalids Is Prohibited

5 May is the International day for protection of the rights of invalids. This year the local unit of the Republican association of wheelchair invalids was established in Hrodna. Its members intended to hold their first action on 5 May. However, according to Anton Sviokla, who applied for the permission to Hrodna City Executive Committee, the authorities didn’t authorize the action for some formal reasons.

According to Anton Sviokla, the state program Environment without Barriers is not implemented in Hrodna. Not all railway stations, shops, drugstores are equipped with special tracks for the invalids. The state organs have no information about the number of the wheelchair invalids, about their employment and life expectance. According to the chair of the Belarusian Republican association of the wheelchair invalids Siarhei Drazdouski, there are 700 members in the organization.
