According to the BAJ press service, this is what contained in the written response signed by Anatol Katsila, the head of the ideology department. On 21 January when requested by the BAJ representatives to comment on this brief response and specift the moves to be taken to restore normal conditions of work for the journalist, Mr. Katsila said that he does not have to provide explanations.
The official notice about de-accreditation of A.Paskannaia, which was received at the start of January last year by BelaPAN from the deputy chair of Homel Regional Executive Committee Piotr Kirychenka, said that this decision was taken "because she violated the established rules of accreditation".
Ms Paskannaia believes that the regional executive committee decided to deprive her of accreditation after she published information regarding the press release issued by the regional State Control Committee about the outcome of harvesting in the agri-companies of the region. After that Ms Paskannaia ceased to receive notifications about events staged by the regional executive committee, and then she was not allowed to attend a meeting of the vice premiers of Belarus and Ukraine, referring to the “partial” de-accreditation. The press secretary of the regional executive committee Iauhien Pavalaviets told her that she would be invited for selected events only, and that the regional executive committee decides who to accredit.
Aliena Paskannaia believes that the regional executive committee uses accreditation as a means of limiting access of independent journalists to official information.
