US condemns arrests of Polish minority representatives
The US has condemned the arrests of representatives of the Polish minority by Belarusian authorities. The US department of State has called the Minsk authorities to stop repressions against their citizens. Belarus police arrested two more members of the Association of Poles Wieslaw Kiewliak the vice president of the association was sentenced to 15 days imprisonment. Journalists were not allowed into the court to listen to the hearing. Three other members of the Association of Poles have already received prison sentences for taking part in what the Minsk authorities call illegal demonstrations. The row between Poland and Belarus began in march when the Minsk authorities stated they do not recognise the newly elected leadership of the Association of Poles in Belarus.
