This is the information provided by Radio Liberty. On 7 July the political prisoner Aliaxandr Vasilieu was released after lunch from the Minsk prison in Kalvaryiskaya Street. At 8 p.m. he returned home in Hrodna.
Several days before Mr. Vasilieu was summonsed to the amnesty commission, where they told him he was entitled to amnesty as a prisoner who had served a third of his term and did not have many violations.
Aliaxandr Vasilieu, 59, lieutenant colonel of the armed forced in the reserve. He was a businessman and a public activist. On 7 September 2004 he and Valiery Lievanieuski, both leaders of the National Strike Committee of Businessmen, received two years in prison each for publicly insulting President Lukashenka.
