Restraint to Skrabiets Remains the Same

On 1 July Minsk Tsentralny Borough Court considered the petition of Siarhiei Skrabiets, oppositional politician and former deputy of the Chamber of Representatives, and didn’t find any reasons to change the restraint to him. That’s why Skrabiets is still kept in Brest investigative isolator.
Procurator’s Office of Belarus has dealt with the criminal case against Skrabiets for about two weeks already, that’s why Minsk Tsentralny Borough Court was entrusted to consider the petition.
The trial lasted for less then half an hour. Besides, Skrabiets’ defense lawyer Mikhail Khomich wasn’t able to come there from Brest, so there wasn’t anyone to defend the interests of the defendant, nobody could explain to Judge Aliena Ilyina the state of health of the man who hungered for about 40 days. In his speech the representative of Procurator’s Office said that there weren’t important arguments for changing the restraint and the judge didn’t satisfy the petition.
