Vitebsk CCP Activists Get 10 Days of Jail for Picketing Vitebsk Executive Committee
Police detained two activists of Christian Conservative Party: Uladzimir Pleshchanka and Barys Khamaida.
Barys Khamaida held a white piece of paper with a black square painted on it.
The picture meant: “our life will be as black if we vote “in favor” at referendum”. The police thought that was enough ground to detain the opposition members. First they took the activists to a police station and then to Chyhunachy court. The police officers were the only witnesses at both trials.
Both opposition members were sentenced to 10 days of jail and taken to Vitebsk prison. By the way, it’s been only 2 weeks since Mr. Pleshchanka left the prison after sentence for similar offence.
RFE/RL reminds the readers, besides Pleshchanka and Khamaida, human rights activist Valery Shchukin serves his term in the same prison now. He was punished for leaflets with the call to say “no” at referendum.
