The interregional public organization “Human Rights Net” that unites human rights defenders from 22 cities of the Russian Federation, has sent letters to President of the Republic of Belarus, Head of the Chamber of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, Minister of Justice of Belarus and Head of the Supreme Court, urging them to stop the persecution of “Human Rights Center “Viasna”.

In the letter to the Minister of Justice Andrey Blinushow, Head of the “Human Rights Net” states:

“Our organization that unites human rights defenders from many regions of the Russian Federation is extremely concerned with the information about attempts of certain workers of the institution that You head to close one of the most known non-State organizations of Your country, Human Rights Center “Viasna”.

Activists of Center “Viasna” are well known in Russia as competent experts and honest people. Our long cooperation lets us express well-grounded doubts in absence of political motivation for this liquidation.

We earnestly urge You to use Your authority and influence to stop persecution of the world-known activists and by this support the image of Your Republic as a democratic and civilized State.

In the letter to the Head of the Supreme Court the Russian human rights defenders write: “The materials of the suit, prepared for the trial by the Ministry of Justice, are beyond criticism. We urge You to treat this case, being guided by Judge’s conscience and Themis’ impartiality.”
