YOUTH CHRISTIAN-SOCIAL UNION LIQUIDATED
On June 9 the Supreme court of Belarus ruled to liquidate the national public association “Youth Christian-Social Union”, which used to be one of youth leading democratically-oriented organizations, registered by the Justice Ministry.
The youth structure was liquidated under article 57 of the Belarus’ Civic Code.
There were four formal grounds for the shutdown:
1. legal address, registered in the living apartment;
2. a stamp doesn’t correspond to the legislation;
3. violations, which occurred during the organization’s re-registration in 1999 due to the Justice Ministry’s mistakes;
4. the organization’s Program and Statute are contradictory.
According to Andrei Kazakevich, representative of the closed down organization, they will file a supervisory appeal to the head of the Supreme Court. In this case the Supreme Court was the court of the first instance, providing no possibility to file a cassation complaint.
