HENADZ SAMOILENKA, ACTIVIST OF BREST VIASNA, PASSED AWAY
In the morning of 6 May 2003 Henadz Samoilenka, one of the most active members of Brest branch of Human Rights Center "Viasna", died of long and painful illness. E was one of the oldest representatives of democratic movement in Brest region, member of BPF “Adradzhennie” movement, member of the National Committee of United Civic Party, chair of “NATO Friends” club.
He participated in every political and public action, which took place in Brest region. He was repeatedly persecuted by the authorities for having an active public position.
In his dying letter he wrote:
“I am proud of not having betrayed Christian Faith and democratic movement. Some of my friends died in the fight for democracy in Belarus, and some disappeared in unclear circumstances, and probably, disappeared forever. They are Yury Zakharanka, Viktar Hanchar, Anatol Krasowski, Henadz Karpenka, and Zmitser Zavadski. Almost 7 years ago Uladzimir Bazan, head of Brest BPF branch, died in this very hospital of the same illness. Today my time has come…!”
The family, the parish of Baptist Evangelical Christians, and numerous representatives of Brest region democratic movement came to say goodbye to their friend.
According to his will, he was buried with a whiteredwhite pin on his breast, his body covered with whiteredwhite flag.
