As we have already informed, on 20 November 2006 a public committee for commemoration of victims of Stalin’s repressions was established in Belarus. It declared 2007 the year of commemoration of victim’s of Stalin’s repressions in Belarus and 29 October – the Day of Memory.

In our country there are 40 memorial signs in honor of such victims. All of them were installed by people without any support from the state. According to the official information, 600 000 persons were repressed in 1917-1953. According to a historian Ihar Kuzniatsou, who refers to a number of scientific research works, the real number is 1,5 million.

At 3 p.m. on 28 February one of commemorative actions will take place in Kurapaty wood where about 300 000 persons were shot by NKVD.
