SUPREME ECONOMIC COURT TO HEAR KRYCHAW NEWSPAPER CASE
Mahilow region economic court Judge Valantsina Staravoitava announced that on December 19. Judge Staravoitava had considered a claim of Krychaw businessman Uladzimer Kudrawtsaw to the local authorities.
The businessman demands to invalidate the decision of the local executive committee, refusing to confirm the legal address to Kudrawtsaw’s newspaper Ulasny Kamentar.
Now the fate of the newspaper is to be decided by the Supreme Economic Court. There are no registered independent newspapers in town at the moment, as earlier local democrats failed to register two other newspapers: Volny Horad (Free Town), and Novaya Hazeta Krychawa (Krychaw’s New Paper). The reason is the same — the local authorities rejected to approve their legal addresses. The analytical weekly Ulasny Kamentar is the last and only hope of Krychaw democrats to have an edition, which would make an alternative to the official state-owned local newspaper Leninski Klich (Lenin’s Call).
