A number of Belarusian youth organizations, including ‘Civil Forum’, ‘Young Democrats’, ‘Movement of Future’, ‘Young Front’, as well as several human rights groups (‘Center for Legal Transformation’, and the Belarusian Helsinki Committee), have developed a draft bill on alternative service, an option provided by Article 57 of the Constitution, but not applied in reality as yet, the Young Front press-service reports.

In the magazine “Belaruskaya Dumka” (A Belarusian Thought) Top Advisor of the State Secretariat of the Security Council Ihar Paddubski has published an article “Some aspects of radical formations’ activities”.

“Despite of a low popularity of radical ideas among the young, none of the really active unregistered structures have stopped its activities voluntarily. More than 10 youth radical formations continue their functioning in the country,” writes an expert on political extremis, and theoretical and practical aspects of counterterrorism, how the author was presented by the magazine.

Kurt Hartvetd, chair of Norwegian footsal club association IFS, addressed the Human Rights Center ‘Viasna’ with a letter, expressing his indignation at the severe detention conditions of goalkeeper Guy Francois Toukam. The footsal official says the Belarusian authorities should provide explanations for the 40-day detention of the goalkeeper.

The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatovich has come out in the support of Belarusian journalists.

On 30 July, Dunja Mijatovich has delivered her first report at the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna. In the report on two dozens of the OSCE participating States, to which Mijatovich addressed with different questions concerning freedom of mass media, Belarus is mentioned as well, Radio Svaboda informs.

On August 1 two Young Front activists were detained in the town of Barysau for propagation of national symbols.

On Sunday evening policemen detained Hanna Sharuba and Uladzislau Yaryomenka in Barysau. The Young Front members were decorating the town with national symbols, the press-service of the Young Front informs.
