The opposition activist was detained while handing out the Svobodnye Novosti Plus newspaper near the Liftmash plant on 19 May. The plant’s chief security officer Shulau and two guards took 15 copies of the paper from the girl and forced her to go to the office of the plant’s administration. Aksana had to spend here about an hour and then was passed to the police.

Recently, the Barysau District Court fined, Ales Abramovich, a democratic activist from Barysau, 875,000 rubles (about $290) under Article 34.34, part 2 of the Code of Administrative Offences, ‘violation of the rules of holding mass events’. The activist appealed against the verdict at the Minsk Region Court. The activist intends to proceed up to the UN Human Rights Committee if his claims won’t be granted at the national level.

Some time ago, a local activist of the Belarusian Popular Front Party, Yauhen Skrabutan, addressed the Ministry of Culture and the Chamber of Representatives of the National Assembly with the proposal to rename Savetskaya Street in the town of Zelva into Larysa Heniush Street (in Honor of the Soviet dissident and Belarusian poet Larysa Heniyush who had lived in the town for a long time). I think that It would be a good gift for Zelva citizens on Larysa's 100th birthday.
