On 5 December a pupil of the 10th form of secondary school #1 of Dokshytsy town Pavel Maliuzhanets was called for a conversation with the school administration. The reason was his principal unwillingness to join pro-president BRSM youth organization.

06.10.2008 Foreign students of Homel State Medical University strike to protest against racial harassment

Instead of coming to classes, foreign students gathered in the hall of the higher educational establishment and demanded that a meeting with the police was held there. They turned the attention of the administration to facts of hooligan assaults near the hostel where citizens of India lived.

18.07.2008 Lukashenka signs decree about 11-year secondary education

On July 17th, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenka signed Decree # 15 “About certain issues of general secondary education”.

The President’s press service reports, the Decree establishes the 11 year term of the general secondary education and a 6-day school week, in which 5 days are study days, and the 6th day is to be used for organizing sports and health-promotion mass events, professional training and cultural events. The transition to the 11-year school curriculum will take place on September 1st, 2008.
