30.06.2010 Babruisk activist fails to protect dignity

Mahiliou Regional Court turned down an appeal by activist Siarhei Yeudakimovich against an earlier verdict by Babruisk Town Court, which, in turn, dismissed his claim to protect honour and dignity, following a series of publications in the local state-run newspaper ‘Babruiskaye Zhytssio back in 2008, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reports.

The participants of the rally against homophobia are found guilty of organizing an unauthorized action.

Seven participants of the Slavic gay parade, including members of the organizing committee of St Petersburg gay parade Dzmitry Milkov and Aleksandr Sheremetyev, detained in Minsk last Saturday have been released in the Pershamaiski district court, the website GayRussia.Ru informs.

Syarhei Kavalenka, an activist of the Conservative Christian Party BPF, stood trial in Vitsebsk on April 21.

Judge Inna Hrabouskaya sentenced the activist to seven days of arrest for an action held by Syarhei Kavalenka with a national white-red-white flag near the Kastrychnitski district court on April 20, Radio Svaboda informs.

19.04.2010 Youth activist Finkevich fined

Today, on 19 April Judge Khoma of Minsk Leninski Court fined the Young Belarus activist Artur Finkevich BYR 17,500 for participating in a picket of support for the Vaukavysk entrepreneur Mikalai Autukhovich staged outside the building of the Belarusian Supreme Court on 16 April, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reports.

17.04.2010 Prosecutor demands to sentence Autukhovich to 20 years of prison

He said that even though charges against Vaukavysk entrepreneurs were not proved in the Supreme Court and were rebutted by witnesses.

Prosecutor Eldar Safarau offers to sentence Mikalai Autukhovich to 20 years of imprisonment, Uladzimir Asipenka and Alyaksandr Laryn -- to 11 years. Mikhail Kazlou - to 3 years, "Radio Svaboda" informs.

31.03.2010 Miron's identity not established by court

Judge Uladzislau Shyrokau suspended consideration of the case of Vitsebsk-based oppositionist from Vitsebsk, Barys Khamajda, who had been charged with hanging a white-red-white flag.

As infromed by Radio Svaboda, the report on petty hooliganism was suspended as there were no proofs of Barys Khamajda's guilt.

24.03.2010 Human rights activists fined

Today, on 24 March Minsk Leninski Court convicted Viasna’s activists Ales Bialiatski, Valiantsin Stefanovich and Iryna Toustsik of violating Article 23.34 of the Civil Code (violation of public event procedures) while staging a picket of protest against the recent execution of death penalties on 23 March in outside the Presidential Administration building in Minsk and fined them BYR 17,500 each.

18.03.2010 Belarusian Association of Journalists under threat of closing down

On March 18, the Supreme Court is to deliver a judgment on complaint of the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) at actions of the Ministry of Justice.

As “Salidarnast” reports, the trial began at 11:00 a.m. yesterday with evidence of witness Alyaksandr Dzyanisau, whose detention was taken as a ground for one of the counts of warning.

17.03.2010 Disabled person wins trial against local authorities

On 16 March Hrodna Kastrychnitski Court considered the claim by Siarhei Feshchanka against Hrodna regional police department, demanding implementation of the ‘Barrier-Free Environment’ program (he required that a ramp be constructed at the entrance to the building of Hrodna road police department)and a compensation for the disability inflicted by his falling on the premises of the town’s road police department.

The Supreme Court continues considering the loud case of the Vaukavysk entrepreneurs. Mikalai Autukhovich, Uladzimir Asipenka, Alyaksandr Laryn, and Mikhail Kazlou are in the dock. The proceeding is carried out by judge Alyaksei Tyatsykhin, prosecutor is Safarau.
