14.04.2014 Court dismisses another lawsuit against language discrimination filed by Henadz Loika
April 11, Judge of the Tsentralny District Court of Minsk Alena Siamak dismissed the lawsuit of the Belarusian artist and civic activist Henadz Loika against “Belinvestbank”, ignoring the arguments of the plaintiff and a public representative Valiantsin Stefanovich about the discriminatory approach of the bank to the Belarusian language.
14.04.2014 Baranavichy: supervisory appeal on the case of the Milavidy festival directed to Office of Prosecutor General
April 10, an organizer of the Milavidy festival Viktar Syrytsa filed a supervisory appeal to the Prosecutor General against the verdicts of the Baranavichy City and District Court, Brest Regional Court and Supreme Court concerning the case of the Milavidy festival.
12.04.2014 Situation of Human Rights in Belarus in March 2014
The human rights situation in Belarus was strongly influenced by the events that shaped the social and political agenda of the month, including the election of deputies of local councils (March 23), reactions of citizens to the situation in the neighboring Ukraine, and celebrations marking the 96th anniversary of the Belarusian People’s Republic, Freedom Day (March 25). Opportunities to enjoy civil and political rights, especially freedom of expression, were excessively limited.

These cultural institutions are located on both sides of the central Lenin Square, and are separated by crosswalks with high curbs which are insurmountable for wheelchair users. For them, such trips take much time and are impossible without the company of volunteers or relatives.

The trial started. It was led by Judge Alena Siamak. Some 5-7 people came to the trial to support Mr. Loika, including the former leader of the Belarusian Popular Front Vintsuk Viachorka. The judge speaks Russian.
10.04.2014 UN Human Rights Committee registered Aliaksandr Hrunou's communication
April 8, the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence to a 25-year-old resident of Homel Aliaksandr Hrunou. On this occasion, he appealed to the Human Rights Committee of the United Nations.

Homel resident Aliaksandr Hrunou was repeatedly sentenced to death. The representative of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee in Homel, candidate of phylosophical sciences Viktar Adzinochanka commented on the verdict, issued by the Supreme Court of Belarus on April 8.

Ales Barazenka, a correspondent of Belsat Belarusian TV channel,was attacked in Donetsk. Barazenka was attacked by strangers after shooting a news story, Belsat reports.

09.04.2014 Constitutional Court finds no violations in law on non-profit organizations acting as foreign agents
April 8 in the morning, the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation voiced its verdict on the the complaint of the Commissioner for Human Rights V.P. Lukin about violation of the constitutional rights of the non-profit organizations who are accused of "performing functions of a foreign agent".
09.04.2014 Khotsimsk: constituency commission refuses to re-count ballots
Former candidate for the Mahiliou Regional Council of Deputies at Khotimsk constituency No. 54 and the candidate for the Khotsimsk District Council in Uzbiarezhnaya constituency No. 13 Valery Karankevich received a response from the constituency election commission to his complaint, in which he demanded a recount of the votes in three polling stations.
