The prosecutor Astravets issued the warrant for examination of the apartments of Ivan Kruk and Mikalai Ulasevich, active participants of the civil initiative against construction of the nuclear power plant in Astravets district. The warrant was issued on Friday and the police tried to examine the apartments the same day.

23.02.2009 Belarusian border guards search EHU students

Activist of the “Young Front” Zmitser Yasevich, returning to Belarus after an exam session in European Humanities University, was searched on the border.

Zmitser’s personal belongings were examined carefully, border guards were especially interested in information in his laptop.

After a search border guards asked Zmitser where he lived and studied – in what university, on which faculty, they even asked how the activist passed the session.

“They obviously had an order for a search – a female border guard spoke with someone before the search,” Zmitser Yasevich says. “I faced such unpleasant searched before, but this has been the first one, for a period of the “liberalization”, for the last six months.”

16.02.2009 St. Valentine’s searches

According to RFE/RL, on 13-14 February Minsk police carried out a number of searches at the private apartments of Belarusian youth activists. On 14 February several plainclothes policemen broke into the apartment of the Young Front youth activists Mikola Dzemidzenka, Valer Matskevich and Vadzim Khaniauka. The police confiscated office equipment and a number of stickers announcing the 14 February action. However, the activists were not detained. On the previous night the police searched the private apartment of the Young front activist Kasia Halitskaya. They confiscated banners and posters prepared for the 14 February action.

According to Hrodna journalist Andrei Paczobut, the number of searches carried out in the framework of the so called ‘Autukhovich’s case’ is much larger than the figures provided by mass media. The total amount of searches conducted by the police may have equaled to 26, says Paczobut.

18.11.2008 Milinkevich's office searched

On November 18 property was distrained in the headquarters of Aliaksandar Milinkevich, the leader of the movement “For Freedom”. Officers of the court distrained everything: computers, office equipment, furniture and even things presented to the politician. Answering protests of oppositionists, officers of the court called in policemen. In fact a search is taking place in the headquarters. Leaders of “For Freedom” movement link this fact with “continuation of repressions against oppositionists in Belarus”.
