15.01.2011 Pukhavichy district: teacher loses her job
Natallia Illinich, the teacher of history at the secondary school in the town of Talka, can lose her job. Her labor contract expires on 27 January, and on 11 January the schoolmaster, Natallia Merkul, told her that the contract won't be extended. Meanwhile, according to the existing laws, the employers must inform their employees about dismissal in a month's advance.

12.01.2011 Homel KGB continues searches
The Homel KGB officers searched the apartment of Yury Klimovich, an electioneering agent of the presidential candidate Vital Rymasheuski and a member of the organizing committee of the Belarusian Christian Party. The search was conducted by four persons headed by Captain Andrei Melnikau. They took away Yury’s computer and materials of Rymasheuski’s electoral campaign.
12.01.2011 Hrodna: KGB search at BPF office is over
According to Vadzim Saranchukou, the Chairperson of the Hrodna branch of the Belarusian Popular Front Party, the search was conducted within the framework of the criminal case concerning the ‘mass riot’ in Minsk on 19 December. The formulation in the warrant ordered the investigators to ‘search the regional headquarters of Kastusiou’, though there’s no such body.
12.01.2011 Belarusian Helsinki Committee informs UN about harassment of lawyers
The human rights organization Belarusian Helsinki Committee has directed a message concerning the pressure rendered by the Belarusian authorities against the lawyers who defend the accused and the suspects in the organization and participation in the mass disturbances on 19 December, as well as on other facts of harassment and intimidation of lawyers, to the UN Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers Gabriela Knaul. The BHC Chairman Aleh Hulak has informed BelaPAN about this.
