27.07.2007 Detentions in Mahiliou

On 27 July in Mahiliou near a place where unknown persons had hanged a white-red-white flag the police detained an independent journalist Hanna Iliina and the chair of Mahiliou city organization of United Civil Party Siarhei Straltsou. Iliina and Straltsou were accused of making photos of policemen without permission.

On 24 July the police detained the youth activists Pavel Baranouski and Aliaksei Shydlouski for posting leaflets with invitations to the European march For Freedom. The police composed a report for distribution of leaflets against Baranouski and for hooliganism – against Shydlouski.

About 30 youngsters were detained for more than an hour at the railway station of Hrodna Maksim Hubarevich, Aliaksei Salei, Yauhen Skrabutan, Viktar Valko, and Franak Viachorka,. All of them returned from the rock-festival Basovishcha which took place in Poland. Five of the detainees, including Skrabutan and Viachorka, were searched.

Hrodna police detained the Young Front activist Andrei Ihnatchyk for handing out the registered newspaper Nasha Slova featuring materials about reconstruction of the city. As the newspaper had the state registration, they soon had to release him.
