26.08.2014 Court sentences Pavel Vinahradau to 10 days of prison

On August 23, the Court of Minsk’s Maskouski district considered an administrative case against activist of the Zmena opposition movement Pavel Vinahradau. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail for alleged hooliganism (Article 17.1 of the Administrative Code).

26.08.2014 Opposition activist detained in Homel

Opposition activist Kanstantsin Zhukouski was detained last evening in Homel. He was detained outside his private house and taken to the police department, despite the fact that it was he who had called the police.

25.08.2014 Belarusian activists detained on Russian border

06.08.2014 Chief editor of “NASH Mahiliou” Ihar Barysau to be tried August 12

It became known from the subpoena, which he received by mail. Mr. Barysau is summoned to the Mahiliou District Court for 3 p.m. on August 12 to be tried under Article 22.9 of the Code of Administrative Offenses for trafficking the newspaper “NASH Mahiliou” and the bulletin “Satsyial-Demakrat” in his car. The trial will be presided by Judge Leuchanka.

04.08.2014 Criminal case brought against civil society activist Yury Rubtsou

A criminal case has been opened against Homel activist Yury Rubtsou for “insulting a judge”. Yury Rubtsou wrote in a Facebook post: “An investigator from the Investigation Committee has just notified me that a criminal case was opened against me either for insulting or for threatening a judge.”

Valery Karankevich, former candidate for the Mahiliou Regional Council of Deputies in Khotsimsk constituency No. 54 and a candidate for the District Council of Khotsimsk in constituency No. 13, received on July 26 from the Mahiliou Regional Prosecutor’s Office a reply to his complaint against the officers of Khotsimsk police department and the Prosecutor of Khotsimsk district.
