Valiantsin Stefanovich, Deputy Chairman of the Human Rights Center "Viasna" met yesterday with Simon Gass, Political Director at the British Foreign Office.
“I said that we were expecting systemic and qualitative changes in the field of human rights, but despite some soft practices that we have seen since August, there are no systemic changes yet. And we need a more specific human rights agenda formulated by the European Union,” said the human rights defender following the meeting.
Valiantsin Stefanovich also emphasized the significance of OSCE ODIHR recommendations, which should be implemented in the legislation of Belarus.
The meeting was also attended by United Civic Party Chairman Anatol Liabedzka; Tatsiana Karatkevich, a leader of the "Tell the Truth!" movement; Pavel Seviarynets, a co-chairman of Belarusian Christian Democracy, and Yury Chavusau, a legal expert at the Assembly of Democratic NGOs.
Earlier the same day, Simon Gass met with Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makei and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alena Kupchyna.
