The trial of a political prisoner Yury Rubtsou will be held on 27 May in the court of the Pružany district. The criminal charges under Article 415 of the Criminal Code (“evasion of serving punishment of restraint of liberty”) will be heard by Judge Mikalai Repikha. The political prisoner faces up to three years of imprisonment.
Yury Rubtsou is continuing his hunger strike while in detention in jail in Baranavičy.
The charges stemmed from the prisoner’s four refusals to work in the open-type detention facility.
Yury Rubtsou refused to work citing low wages and asked for a job with the country’s average salary of USD 600. The political prisoner also criticized the existing employment rules applied in open-type penal institutions.
