20.12.2010 HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS FOR FREE ELECTIONS RAIDED AND STAFF DETAINED
At approximately 3:15am on 20 December, following the 19 December Belarusian presidential election, special forces personnel raided the office of Human Rights Centre “Viasna” in central Minsk. At 3:45am, ten staff present were detained, including lawyers Valentin Stefanovich and Vladimir Labkovich, and taken to the police department of Pervomaisky district of Minsk.

According to information received by the Human Rights Center “Viasna’, dozens of people applied for medical aid, after riot police violently broke up a 10,000 protest rally in Minsk Nezalezhnastsi Square.
19.12.2010 Uladzimir Niakliayeu severely beaten (Video)
Presidential canidate Uladzimir Niakliayeu, together with dozen other activists, have been reportedly beaten up by riot police in downtown Minsk around 19.00 this evening, as a group of his supporters was moving towards Kastrychnitskaya Square. Mr. Niakliayeu has been taken to hospital with a severe head injury.
19.12.2010 Detentions and police raids across Belarus (updated)
Attention! The Maskouski District Police Department of Minsk instigated a criminal case under Article 339, part 3 of the Criminal Code (malignant hooliganism) against Dzmitry Dashkevich, Eduard Lobau and Dzianis Lazar. At 4.30 p.m. they were detained in line with Article 108 of the Criminal Process Code and guarded to the pre-trial prison of the main police department of the Minsk City Executive Committee.

18.12.2010 Human rights defenders’ appeal to President, Internal Ministry and KGB
Representatives of Belarus’ seven major human rights NGOs have released a joint statement, calling upon the Presidential Administration, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the KGB to cease accelerating the atmosphere of fear during the Presidential election campaign and to desist from the use of violence against peaceful protesters.

14.12.2010 Minsk Procuracy: the information of the human rights defender has been noted and will be taken into account during the prosecutorial supervision of the ‘case of anarchists’
The Minsk City Procuracy promised human rights defender Ales Bialiatski to take into account the information submitted by him concerning the criminal cases of activists of anarchist and antifascist movements. However, he had to apply to the prosecutor to make the procuracy answer on the merits of his initial address.
14.12.2010 Election of the President of Belarus 2010: Pre-election Monitoring Report on Campaign
The novelties and positive changes, however, did little to decrease the inequality in campaign conditions between the incumbent president and other candidates. As in 2006, Alyaksandr Lukashenka benefitted from the following: • unlimited opportunities for Lukashenka to avail of the state mass media – compared to 2 hours of TV and radio appearances and an opportunity to print 5 pages of text in the main newspapers guaranteed to the other candidates; • targeted criticism of the other candidates in the state mass media – compared to an exclusively complimentary coverage of the incumbent president’s personality and his election programme.
09.12.2010 Review-Chronicle of Human Rights Violations in Belarus in November 2010
The stage of collecting signatures in support of the nomination of candidates for President of the Republic of Belarus ended in November. On 18 November the Central Election Commission held a sitting to register candidates. The electoral teams of 11 out of 17 pretenders for candidate stated they had passed to election commissions more than 100,000 signatures in their support. 6 pretenders decided to withdraw from the election. Uladzimir Pravalski wasn't registered as a candidate for President because, according to the CEC, he had passed only 118 valid signatures in support of his candidacy.
