Of especial concern is the recent report by Mrs. Iryna Khalip, the wife of former presidential candidate Andrei Sannikau, saying that the prisoner’s life is at risk due to the reported use of torture and inhuman treatment against him.

Ivan Shyla, "Young Front" activist from Salihorsk, held an action in support of Ales Bialiatski at the Human Rights Congress held in the Polish town of Katowicy on 8 December. The Congress was dedicated the the human rights situation on the post-Soviet space and was held at the juridical faculty of the Silezian University where Ivan studies.

A letter was received from human rights defender Ales Bialiatski, sentenced to 4.5 years in a high-security colony. He wrote it on 30 November, after the announcement of the verdict, but before his transfer to the Zhodzina prison. After the trial he returned to his usual affairs – learning English, reading and answering a great number of letters. He feels quite well and calm and wishes it to all his colleagues. Ales is sure that the dirt which was flung at him by state-owned media didn't touch him, but the strong support from many acquaintances and strangers made a great positive impact.

Human rights defender Ales Bialiatski, sentenced to 4.5 years in a high security colony for alleged tax evasion on 24 November, has been transferred to the notorious Zhodzina prison.
01.12.2011 Valiantsin Stefanovich to have two trials on 2 December
The trial concerning the exaction of taxes from human rights defender Valiantsin Stefanovich will start at 10 a.m. on 2 December at the Partyzanski District Court (Siamashka Street, 33). It was to have started on 15 November, but was postponed on Valiantsin's request, who couldn't appear in court for family reasons.

On 24 November, in Belarus, a politically motivated verdict was pronounced against a prominent human rights defender, leader of the Human Rights Center “Viasna”, Vice-President of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), Ales Bialiatski. He was found guilty of alleged “tax evasion on a large scale” and sentenced to four and a half years of imprisonment in a high security penal colony with confiscation of property.

On 25 November, activists of numerous FIDH members across the world staged pickets of solidarity with the imprisoned Viasna leader Ales Bialiatski, following a 4.5-year verdict pronounced by Minsk court on 24 November. Cities covered by the campaign include Paris, Brussels, Stockholm, Helsinki, Buenos-Aires, Ankara, Saint Petersburg, Yerevan, Bishkek, Tbilisi, Zagreb, etc.
