14.04.2017 UN HRC Finds Violation of the Rights of the Abducted Politician Yury Zakharanka
The Committee on Human Rights of the UN considered the individual complaint from the politician’s mother Uliyana Zakharanka and his daughter Alena filed in 2014. Finally, the Committee ruled that the rights of the disappeared politician and of his relatives have been violated. The decision was sent on April 11 to the lawyers of the Belarusian Documentation Center, who reported it at a press conference on April 13.

Dzmitry Paliyenka, an activist awarded a 2-year suspended sentence for his involvement in the Critical Mass cycling protest in April 2016, will spend 18 months of the term in prison, after the Zavodski District Court of Minsk revoked today the suspension over alleged violations of related restrictions.

31.03.2017 Expert analysis of the prosecution of Viachaslau Kasinerau
On March 28, it was reported that activist Viachaslau Kasinerau, who was serving a 15-day administrative detention for participation in a demonstration on February 17 in Minsk, was charged with an offense under Part 1, Art. 339 of the Criminal Code (hooliganism). The activist was taken into custody and transferred to the Interior Ministry’s pre-trial prison in Minsk.

The imprisoned human rights defender Andrei Bandarenka will be released tomorrow, after the Lieninski District Court of Mahilioŭ found him today not guilty of violating prison rules. If convicted, Bandarenka could have faced another year in prison, as requested by the prosecutor earlier today.

Paris-Geneva, March 29, 2017: Belarusian authorities continue to use detention to prevent human rights defenders from observing peaceful protests throughout the country. The Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders (FIDH-OMCT) deplores a new series of arrests, harassments and convictions and urges Belarusian authorities to release all detained human rights defenders and investigate allegations of ill-treatment.
