Homel opposition activist Uladzimir Niapomniashchykh has submitted an individual complaint to the UN Human Rights Committee against a fine received by the activist for alleged violation of peaceful assembly restriction in 2011.

The UN Human Rights Committee considered the appeal of Vitsebsk activist Siarhei Beyazeka against unlawful actions of the police and a court verdict for more than four years.

On 4 May the vice-head o the United Civil Party and chairman of the Homel regional organization of the UCP Vasil Paliakou applied to the UN Human Rights Committee. The politician believes that the Belarusian authorities violated Article 19 and 21 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (the right to freedom of information and of peaceful assembly) by sentencing him to arrest for organizing the People’s Assembly.

The UN Human Rights Committee has registered a complaint submitted by Homel civil activist Mrs. Zinaida Shumilina, contesting a number of bans on holding pickets in support of former presidential candidates and their families.

Ivan Kruk, a civil activist from Astravets, filed an individual communication with the High Commissioner for Human Rights of the UN. A copy of the communication was also sent to the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Belarus.

Brest-based activist of the Belarusian Leftist Party "Fair World" Liavontski Chapurnykh applied to the UN Human Rights Committee.

Liubou Kavaliova, mother of death convict Uladzislau Kavaliou, and his sister, Tatsiana Kaziar, have received official information from the Office of the Supreme Commissioner for Human Rights. This information had been passed to it by representatives of the Belarusian government at the UN Geneva office on 15 March 2012 – the day when Uladzislau Kavaliou had been executed by shooting.

Additional information concerning the case of death convict Uladzislau Kavaliou was submitted to the UN Human Rights Committee by his mother and sister, Liubou Kavaliova and Tatsiana Kaziar.

The UN Human Rights Committee has registered a complaint submitted by Homel activist of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party People’s Hramada Yuras Zakharanka.

Barysau human rights defender Aleh Matskevich has received a reply from the UN Human Rights Committee saying that his complaint against several picket bans imposed by the town authorities has been registered by the Committee.
