The authorities continue persecuting the entrepreneurs who have participated in the actions of protest against president’s decree #760.

12.02.2008 Young Front Supports Candidacy of Zmitser Zhaleznichenka for Student Peace Prize

The underground youth organization Young Front has supported the initiative of the Belarusian human rights activist, the Human Rights Center Viasna and the BPF Youth (youth wing of the Belarusian People’s Front Party) for nomination of an activist of the BPF Youth Zmitser Zhaleznichenka for Student Peace Prize.

01.02.2008 Authorities Compensate Release of Political Prisoners with Other Repressions

Student Tatsiana Tsishkevich, beaten at the entrepreneurs’ rally on 10 January and arrested for 20 days, was expelled from university. A criminal case against Andrei Kim was initiated on threats to a policeman.

14.01.2008 Economical Persecution of Protesting Entrepreneurs

In the morning of 14 December the administration of the market center Underground city hanged out the lists of the persons who were absent from work on 10 December, during the protest action of entrepreneurs. This can be considered as violation of the regime of work of the market center. As a result those who were absent from their jobs without a ‘good excuse’ can be deprived of their licenses of individual entrepreneurs and thus lose their jobs.

09.01.2008 Political Repressions in Belarus in 2007

During the last year Belarusian human rights activists carefully collected information about different forms of repressions that were used by the authorities for political persecution of public and political activists. Today the Belarusian version of www.spring96.org presents an important result of their work – the list of the citizens who underwent administrative persecution in 2007. Soon the website will also be updated with information about criminal cases against political opponents and other kinds of persecution.

13.12.2007 Two Victims of Violent Dispersal of Action at Kastrychintskaya Square Are in Hospital

A Young Front leader Zmitser Khvedaruk is still in clinical hospital #9 in Minsk. During the preliminary examinations the doctor diagnosed brain concussion. However, Khvedaruk can also have other injuries. During the yesterday’s action of protest against Vladimir Putin’s visit to Belarus (possibly aimed at signing the act of the union state, thus depriving Belarus of sovereignty), the police were tearing a white-red-white flag out from Khvedaruk’s hands. The 19-year-old youngster held the flag with his both hands, while fascists in the uniform were beating him into unconsciousness. Then they stamped on him.

12.12.2007 Politicial Prisoner Finkevich to Be Tried on 20 December

According to the information of Mahiliou human rights activist Barys Bukhel, the consideration of the criminal case against Artur Finkevich was appointed on 20 December. The trial will start at 10.30 a.m. The court has directed to Mahiliou state university a request to provide an interpreter into Belarusian.

03.11.2007 All Detained Halloween Participants Sentenced to Arrest

Tatsiana Lashkarova was the first to get a term. The judge of Savetski district court of Minsk Liudmila Savastsian sentenced the girl to 5 days of administrative arrest. Tatsiana said that the report of detention was not true. Young people were charged with petty hooliganism. Their appearance allegedly was an ‘outrage against public morality’.

02.11.2007 Rechytsa: KGB ‘Checks’ Passport of Entrepreneur Leanid Nevar

Leanid Nevar has passed his passport to the passport and migration service because there were no more clean pages for visas. He paid for quick production of a new passport. They were also to transfer the valid permissive seal for foreign travel.

02.11.2007 Minsk: Five Days of Jail for Celebration of Halloween

In the evening of 31 October the participants of Halloween celebration Andrei Kim, Tatsiana Lashkarova, Valiantsin Sakalouski and Yury Shalin were detained by the police. They spent the night and the following day at Savetski district police department of Minsk. After 9 p.m. on 1 November they were taken to the remand prison in Akrestsin Street. The trials were appointed on 2 November.

25.10.2007 Court to Continue Consideration of Student’s Suit on November 2.

Centralny court of Homel will continue the hearing of the suit filed by straight-A student Zmitser Zhaleznichenka against his expulsion on November 2nd.

19.10.2007 Paval Yukhnevich Jailed for 15 Days

Today democratic activist Paval Yukhnevich was sentenced to 15 days of jail by Savetski court of Minsk. Only yesterday the activist was released from Akrestsina jail where he spent 7 days for organizing the European March. Today he was again found guilty of violation of two articles of the Administrative Code.

10.10.2007 Smarhon: Human Rights Activist Seeks Prosecutor’s Help

A public activist Ales Dzerhachou has phoned to Smarhon district prosecutor. He informed the prosecutor that the police ringed his house and demand from him to come with them to Smarhon district police department. They state that in the morning he walked his dog and insulted somebody.
