The Human Rights Center “Viasna”

On 4 May the Court of Polatsk and the Polatsk district turned down the appeal of Yury Rudkouski against the ruling of the road police, according to which he was deprived of the right to drive for two years.

The third hearing concerning the financial compensation for extra work, filed by an activist of the Free Trade Union, Mikalai Sharakh, against the administration of the open joint-stock company “Shklovalakno” (“Fiberglass”) took place on 11 November.

The court verdict on closing down the private socio-political weekly Nasha Niva hasn't been pronounced. However, the subscription to it is stopped in Polatsk and the Polatsk district.

Polatsk court sentenced two local activists Viktar Kalesnik and Aliaksandr Kalintsau to two days of administrative arrest each for alleged using foul language yesterday evening.

On 16 March, Polatsk Town and District Court dismissed an appeal lodged by local activist Mr. Kalesnik against official of the town executive committee Mrs. Hanebnaya, who banned a picket of solidarity with the victims of the 19 December 2010 police crackdown scheduled for 19 February.
