Orsha authorities ban pickets again
Another ban on holding two pickets on May Day was received by Orsha activists of the United Leftist Party “Fair World”.
On 16 March activists of the Belarusian Leftist Party "Fair World" intended to hold actions in 14 villages and the town of Damachava to express their protest against the ongoing increase of prices on foodstuffs and public utilities, which had an especially negative impact on the economical situation of pensioners and families with many children.
Liavontsi Chapurnykh, a member of the Belarusian Leftist Party "Fair World", filed an individual communication with the UN Human Rights Committee. He asks the committee to consider the 5-day arrest to which he was sentenced for the distribution of invitations to a People's Assembly, as a violation of his rights.
The Orsha human rights defenders Vasil Berasneu and Vasil Leuchankau received an answer from the Ministry of Internal Affairs to their complaint concerning the refusal of the Orsha City Police Department to conclude an agreement for serving their picket.
