Representatives of the antinuclear public initiative in Horki distract of Mahiliou oblast have collected more than 2.5 thousand signatures against the construction of a nuclear power station in Belarus. BelaPAN was informed about it by the press-secretary of the initiative Eduard Brokarau.

5 June Pukhavichy district court tried the administrative cases against the Tatsiana Dylkova and Nasta Papova, former teachers from the settlement of Druzhny who had taken part in the unauthorized meeting of the local citizens in protest against the construction of a chemical plant in the location by the Russian company Avgust-Bel.

22 May the judge of Pukhavichy district court Sviatlana Akulich ruled to fine the civil activist Siarhei Abrazouski 1.4 million rubles for alleged organization of an unauthorized rally against the construction of a chemical plant near Minsk heating station #5.
15.05.2008 Authorities demand actions of protest against chemical plant be stopped
A group of state officials headed by the energy minister Alexander Aziartsou has met with the working collective of heat station #5 in the settlement of Druzhny (Pukhavichy district). Earlier the officials demanded that the people stopped the actions of protest against the construction of a chemical plant, started by the Russian company Avgust-Bel. The activists stay they will sue on this issue.

22.08.2007 Belarus to Build Atomic Power Plant
Minister for economy of Belarus Mikalai Zaichanka is sure that the country can’t do without the atomic power engineering. ‘Due to the present day state of relationship with Russia and gas prices the power engineering has become very costly’, declared the minister for economy in Minsk specifying that the majority of heat and electric power plants are gas powered. ‘We are loosing competitiveness on the tariffs and under such conditions we can’t do without an APP’, he said.
09.08.2007 Ecologists Indignant at New TV Project by Aliaksandr Zimouski
A group of activists of the Belarusian ecological movement has distributed an appeal to the population concerning the advertisement of murders of wild animals in the National Parks on the Belarusian TV. A reason for the protest became a video by the Agency of Television News (ATN), called Belavezhskaye Safari. On 30 July 2007 it was shown on the 1st Belarusian TV channel as a part of Aliaksandr Zimouski’s project National Parks of Belarus.
09.08.2007 About 600 Citizens of Biaroza Sign against Neighboring Chemical Plant
On 20 July the first line of Frandesa factory for production of herbicides, pesticides and insecticides was opened in Biaroza. The founding capital comes from Israel. At present the factory produces only Shkval herbicide, but soon five more kinds of chemicals, elaborated by the Academy of Sciences, will be produced there. The factory also plans to export the chemicals.
