The procuracy of Leninski district of Brest turned down the complaint of the oppositional activist Zhana Abramava against inadequate conditions at the temporary isolator of Leninski district police department of Brest.

06.10.2008 Police detained a suspect in the case of Minsk blast

The police have detained a citizen of Belarus who is suspected in relation to the blast that had taken place on 4 July in the morning in Minsk. Till lately, 21-year-old Alexander Koryk has worked at the Uladpradimpart enterprise.

02.10.2008 Co-chairman of Belarusian Christian Democracy detained at the airport

On 30 September the co-chairman of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Party Vital Rymasheuski was detained at the Minsk airport while going to an international conference in Berlin.

29.09.2008 Activists persecuted after rally on September 28

Late evening, after the rally on Kastrychnitskaya Square, the police detained several protesters. Andrei Zubarau, Heorhi Paulenka, and Siarhei Piatrouski are among the detained. We are trying to find out the names of the other detained activists. Several rally participants, Franak Viachorka among them, were severely beaten by strangers at the crossing of Bahdanovicha and Niakrasava streets.

28.09.2008 First detentions in Minsk

The first detentions on the eve of the action of protest in Kastrychnitskaya Square have been registered already. Several hours ago the police detained a youth activist Uladzimir Shved near the apartment of the deputy-head of the Young Front Arthur Finkevich.

22.09.2008 Polatsak: Detentions for distributing newspaper Vybar

Polatsak police drew up reports on youth activists Ales Krutkin from Polatsak and Kastus Ivanou from Vitebsk. The guys accused of distribution of printed materials without publisher’s data had to spend 1.5 hours in the police station. When the reports were drawn up, the police informed them they would receive summons to court or administrative commission. The police officers did not return 228 copies of Vybar newspaper that advocates for boycott of the parliamentary election.

16.09.2008 Beaten for a white-red-white flag

The police detained Andrus Tsianiuta, activist of Young Front, during the celebration of the Day of the City. In the evening of September 13th Andrus was walking to a concert in the Ice Palace with a white-red-white flag. The policemen pulled the Young Front activist out of the crowd, knocked him down and beat him. Andrus says, the policemen dislocated his finger and injured his knee.

At night on 15 September the young activists Mikhail Illin and Yauhen Skrabets were detained in Brest.

During the official events dedicated to Homel’s City Day, when the 866th anniversary of the city was celebrated, Young Front activists raised white-red-white flags.

15.09.2008 ‘Young Front’ activist gets handcuffed for handing out newspapers

When distributing the latest publication of the independent newspaper Svabodny Salihorsk in the central market of the city, a volunteer of the newspaper, an activist of the Young Front Andrus Tychyna was detained by local policeman with use of force. He was handcuffed, and, despite of the indignation of the market customers, was taken to the local police department.

On 10 September Sianno district police department held an operation on armed seizure of a ‘criminal’ in the post office of the town of Sianno.

09.09.2008 Oppositional candidate gets detained during electoral speech on TV

Kanstantsin Zhukouski, representative of the Belarusian Christian democracy Party, MP candidate in Buda-Kashaliova constituency (Homel region) was guarded to the local police department and was denied an opportunity of shooting propaganda video on the Homel oblast TV.

On 8 September the police detained the activists of the United Civil party Natallia Shchukina and Alexander Protska. They were handing out leaflets with the appeal to citizens not to take part in the parliamentary elections.

On 7 September the activists of the European Belarus civil campaign Ivan Amelchanka and Siarhei Makarevich were detained in the Minsk center for spreading stickers calling to boycott the oncoming the parliamentary elections.

05.09.2008 Minsk: ‘Young Front’ activist Vadzim Kaniauka is detained

On 5 September in Minsk the police detained the Young Front activist Vadzim Khanyauka.
