25.08.2010 Minsk Economic Court dismisses claim by Havary Praudu civil campaign
The Cassation Court of Minsk Economic Court dismissed a claim lodged by the Rukh Naperad association, famous for its involvement in the Havary Praudu (‘Speak the Truth!’) civil campaign, after the organization’s rent contract was declared invalid and Minsk authorities said they were going to close it down, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reports.

24.06.2010 Court fails to consider appeal against poor detention conditions
Brest Regional Court refused to consider an appeal against poor detention conditions at Brest pre-trial prison lodged by a ‘For Freedom’ activist Ivan Stasiuk, claiming that the regulation of prison conditions is within the authority of the Interior Ministry and cannot be questioned by courts, Aliaksandr Milinkevich’s press-service reports.
23.06.2010 Activist Ramanovich appeals civil sentence
Aliaksandr Ramanovich, BPF member and activist of the ‘For Freedom’ movement, lodged a complaint with Brest Regional Court, appealing against the decision by Pinsk District Court. On 16 June the court sentenced the activist to a BYR 1,050,000 fine for alleged ‘illegal production of printed materials’ (Par 2 of Art. 22.9 of the Civil Code).

Today, on 27 May, a Belgium citizen Adrien Baudouin lodged a complaint with Minsk Maskouski Court, appealing against illegal actions by the police on 17 May, when he was illegally detained together with other participants of an educational event – screening of a film.

Homel Regional Court refused to consider a claim lodged by the ‘Just World’ Party after its activist Valianstin Yauzrezau was not elected member of Zhlobin regional election commission. The party’s lawyers are currently drafting an appeal to be submitted to the Supreme Court of Belarus.
24.03.2010 Supreme Economic Court turns down claim by Nash Dom newspaper
The Supreme Economic Court of Belarus dismissed a claim by the founders of the Nash Dom newspaper against the Ministry of Information’s refusal to register the edition. The claimant argued that the Ministry should have either registered the newspaper or refused the registration, instead of returning the application.
22.03.2010 Supreme Court rules in favour of Ministry of Justice
The Supreme Court of Belarus dismissed the claim by the ‘Razam’ independent trade union against the Ministry of Justice, which refused the Union state registration, Radio Racyja reports quoting the organization’s chair Iryna Yaskevich. In her verdict, Judge Larysa Filimanikhina claimed that one of the claimants Mikalai Kaniukh had been illegally elected and therefore had no legal authority to sign the claim.
