18 protests banned in Salihorsk in 2012
Eighteen mass events have been banned by Salihorsk town authorities since the beginning of the year alone, with six more pickets banned on 2 February, local human rights defender Uladzimir Shyla says.
Dzianis Turchaniak, coordinator of Brest office of the For Freedom movement, has lodged a cassational appeal against a ruling by Brest Leninski District Court, which dismissed the activist’s claim on allegedly illegal actions by deputy chair of the city’s executive committee, the Novy Chas newspaper reports.
In his appeal against a four-day arrest for alleged using of foul language on 30 January, Aleh Vouchak, leader of the Kyiv-based Legal Assistance to Citizens Foundation, argues that the court ruling by Judge Aliaksandr Yakunchykhin is “illegal and groundless”, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reports.
Aliaksandr Shachanok, resident of the village of Dabuzha, Bykhau district, Mahiliou region, has addressed the district’s prosecutor’s office with a demand to re-initiate criminal prosecution against local policeman lieutenant Vashchyla, after his previous demand was dismissed by the police department.
On 19 January, deputy chair of the Human Rights Center “Viasna” Valiantsin Stefanovich lodged a complaint with Minsk City Court demanding to reverse an earlier decision of 16 December 2011 by Minsk Partyzanski District Court to exact 56 mln. rubles of fine for alleged tax violations.
The Supreme Court of Belarus has dismissed the appeals lodged by activists of the anarchists’ movement Artsiom Prakapenka and Pavel Syramolatau sentenced to seven years of imprisonment for alleged attack on the KGB Babruisk office, www.belaruspartisan.org reports.
