Mrs. Anzhalika Kambalava, member of Baranavichy office of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee, has sent an open letter to chairman of the House of Representatives’ Legislation Commission Mikalai Samaseika, together with MPs Sviatlana Pishch and Anatol Vankovich, suggesting humanization of the country’s penal legislation.
Aleh Hulak, chair of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee, and the BHC’s chief lawyer Harry Pahaniayla have lodged complaints against the foreign travel restrictions imposed on them by the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Justice, the BHC press-service reports.
The Belarusian Helsinki Committee has lodged an appeal with the Prosecutor General’s Office demanding to investigate torture allegations reported by Mr. Siarhei Hafarau, inmate of Minsk detention center in Valadarski Street, Radio Racyja reports.
Representatives of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee are seeking to attend the sitting of the Commission for Pardons which will consider the case of the death convicts Dzmitry Kanavalau and Uladzislau Kavaliou, found guilty of terrorist act in the Minsk metro and a number of other episodes.
The reason for the appeal of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee to the General Procuracy is information which was filed by the wife of former presidential candidate Andrei Sannikau, Iryna Khalip at a press conference in Minsk on 25 January.
