Belarusian Helsinki Committee observer fined
Yulia Khlashchankova, observer of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee, has been fined BYR 315,000 for involvement in a protest in central Minsk on 19 December (Article 23.34 of the Administrative Code).
Representatives of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee are seeking to attend the sitting of the Commission for Pardons which will consider the case of the death convicts Dzmitry Kanavalau and Uladzislau Kavaliou, found guilty of terrorist act in the Minsk metro and a number of other episodes.
The reason for the appeal of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee to the General Procuracy is information which was filed by the wife of former presidential candidate Andrei Sannikau, Iryna Khalip at a press conference in Minsk on 25 January.
Human Rights Center "Viasna" and the Belarusian Helsinki Committee recognized Ihar Alinevich, Mikalai Dziadok and Aliaksandr Frantskevich as political prisoners of the present regime. The human rights defenders came to this conclusion on the basis of analysis of the so-called “Case of Anarchists”.
Aleh Hulak, Chair of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee, sued to the Pershamaiski District Court of Minsk against the refusal of the investigator of the Financial Investigations Department to change the restraint to Ales Bialiatski to a written non-leave undertaking under his personal guarantee.
