On May 17 the Chyhunachny District Court of Vitsebsk completed hearing the lawsuit brought by Mrs. Antanina Pivanos to demand compensation for confiscated embroidery with a prayer. On March 25, 2008 she gave it to the oppositionist Barys Khamaida, which was regarded as an unauthorized street event by the police and then by the court.

Siarhei Verameyenka, member of the Belarusian Christian Democracy’s Hrodna office, is appealing a fine to Hrodna Regional Court. On May 7 Judge Natallia Kozel of Leninsky District Court of Hrodna sentenced Siarhei Verameyenka to a fine of 2 mln rubles for alleged violation of Article 22.9 (par. 2) - illegal manufacture of printed products.
16.05.2013 Vitsebsk Regional Court confirms fine to activist Piotr Ivanov
Vitsebsk Regional Court has heard an appeal lodged by Piotr Ivanov to contest the ruling by Judge Valiantsina Kismiaroshkina of Pershamaiski District Court who fined the activist for allegedly providing false testimony against traffic police and disobeying police officers. As a result, the regional court decided that the decision of the district court was legal.

Mahiliou Regional Court considered yesterday an appeal lodged by a resident of the village of Lebiadzianka, Bialynichy district, Valery Vusik, who challenged an earlier decision by Bialynichy District Court to sentence the activist to a fine of 5 million rubles for alleged libel and for distributing the newspaper “Mahiliouski Vybar.”

18.04.2013 Homel human rights defender seeks compensation over failure to implement UN HR Committee decisions
Human rights defender Leanid Sudalenka filed a lawsuit to the Tsentralny District Court of Homel against the Ministry of Finance demanding compensation for moral damages due to the failure of the authorities to implement the recommendations of the UN Human Rights Committee. He estimates the moral damage at the amount of the salary of a Member of Parliament within four years of office.

Judge Zhanna Andreichyk of the Court of Homel’s Tsentralny District considered yesterday the complaint of civil activist Kanstantsin Zhukouski about a ban on holding a picket on 1 April imposed by the city executive committee. The activist and his associates were planning to hold a rally under a slogan “Homel City Executive Committee! Hands Off History!” in order to attract public attention to the destruction of unique wooden buildings in the center of Homel.
