Leninski District Court of Minsk was scheduled to consider today the case of the former presidential candidate, leader of the civil campaign "Tell the Truth", poet Uladzimir Niakliayeu, who was expected to be released from serving a sentence of two years imprisonment suspended for 2 years under Par. 1, Art. 342 of the Criminal Code (organization of activities that breach public order, or participating in them).

The delegates of the 6th Congress of Belarusians of the World that opened in Minsk on July 23 under the auspices of the International Public Organization “Batskaushchyna” (“Fatherland”) called on the Belarusian authorities to release political prisoners, the BelaPAN news agency reports.

August 4, 2013 will mark a sad anniversary. Ales Bialiatski has been in jail for two years. Two years behind bars for defending human rights in his home country, Belarus. Ales keeps his hopes up. And despite the forced daily work, he writes a lot. His colleagues published his writings on prison literature in Belarus. And he is currently working on a second book on the human rigts movement in his country. On August 4, we will be alongside Ales. The Belarusian government must know it!

18.07.2013 Belarus Foreign Minister visits EU: FIDH calls demonstration for human rights in Brussels
Belarus Foreign Minister, Vladimir Makey will be in Brussels on Monday 22 July after the EU lifted the travel ban against him in June, despite the absence of progress on the situation of human rights in Belarus and the fact that 12 political prisoners remain behind bars. FIDH is organising a demonstration at Rond-point Schuman on 22 July at 12:00 CET.
17.07.2013 Statkevich’s letter sent to Prosecutor’s Office
According to Maryna Adamovich, wife of the political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich, he is facing more obstacles in his correspondence. Earlier, letters from Statkevich simply did not pass censorship, while letters sent to him “disappeared” or if the letter was sent by registered mail the political prisoner only received an empty envelope.

Vasil Parfiankou, involved in the case of the alleged riots in Minsk on 19 December 2010, was formally charged under Article 421 of the Criminal Code (failure to comply with the requirements of preventive supervision). 15.07.2013 Solidarity postcards passed to Pavel Seviarynets
Following the monthly tradition, Biaroza activists visited the prisoner Pavel Seviarynets. They provided him with spring water, food and handed postcards from families who took part in the solidarity action "Week of Political Prisoners". Last week was dedicated to Pavel Seviarynets. Pavel thanked for the solidarity with him and for the kind words. He also said he had already received postcards from Brest.
12.07.2013 Homel residents join "Week of Political Prisoners"
An action in support of political prisoners is held by the public-political center in Paleskaya Street, 52 in Homel and was organized by the Homel human rights defenders from "Viasna" and "Salidarnasts". All interested people can come there and write postcards for the Belarusian political prisoners.
