On 19 January, deputy chair of the Human Rights Center “Viasna” Valiantsin Stefanovich lodged a complaint with Minsk City Court demanding to reverse an earlier decision of 16 December 2011 by Minsk Partyzanski District Court to exact 56 mln. rubles of fine for alleged tax violations.

The Pershamaiski District Court of Vitsebsk finished the proceedings on an administrative case against political prisoner Siarhei Kavalenka. Judge Volha Ivanova fined him for alleged swearing at officers of the penal inspection.

On 12 January Siarhei Shytsikau, Judge of the Tsentralny District Court of Homel, turned down the appeal of the Homel human rights defenders Anatol Paplauny and Leanid Sudalenka against the refusal of the Homel City Executive Committee to authorize their picket, dated to the Human Rights Day, 10 December.
11.01.2012 Mikalai Ulasevich sentenced to pay 1 million rubles as compensation for moral harm
Such a decision was handed down on 10 January by the Ashmyany District Court at the request of the entrepreneur Andrei Dziadkou, who accused anti-nuclear activist Mikalai Ulasevich of disseminating false information insulting his honor and dignity.
09.01.2012 Ex-political prisoner Ales Kirkevich is required to pay fine for electoral meeting
On 6 January court marshals paid an unexpected visit to Ales's apartment. They demanded that he paid a fine to which he had been sentenced last year for holding an electoral meeting of Hrodna residents with presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich. After the meeting Kirkevich and some more Hrodna activists had been sentenced to pay fines of 700,000 rubles for participation in “unauthorized rally”.
09.01.2012 Minsk: journalist imprisoned for elucidation of picket near KGB goes on hunger-strike
On 8 January guards of the Minsk KGB office detained an activist of the “European Belarus”, Mikita Kavalenka, and journalist Aliaksandr Barazenka. The action lasted for about a minute: Kavalenka unfurled white-red-white flags and portraits of political prisoners, while Barazenka shot it on video.
06.01.2012 Heorhi Stankevich fined 1,4 million rubles
Heorhi Stankevich, editor of the small-circulation newspaper “Kryvinka”, distributed in the Beshankovichy district, was charged with violation of the distribution rules. He was to have been tried for it on 4 January. However, Heorhi didn't manage to come due to an illness.
06.01.2012 Consideration of appeal of invalid Marozau postponed to 12 January
The consideration of Uladzimir Marozau’s appeal against the refusal to instigate a criminal case concerning an unlawful assault of police officers on him, was postponed to 12 January due to the failure of the procuracy to timely pass the case materials to the Pershamaiski District Court. The trial will start at 9.45 a.m. on 12 January.
06.01.2012 Brest: court turns down appeal of “For Freedom!” activist
The Leninski District Court of Brest turned down the appeal of the local coordinator of the “For Freedom” movement, Dzianis Turchaniak, against actions of the deputy chairperson of the Brest City Executive Committee Viachaslau Khafizau, who refused to provide him with documents concerning the fate of a house on 17 Verasnia Street, which is a historical monument. The activists argues that such refusals violate the principle of publicity of the work of state bodies, enshrined in the Law “On Local Government and Self-government”.

Brest Region Court turned down the appeal of activists of the Free Trade Union of Belarus against the refusal of the Brest City Executive Committe to authorize its picket “For Worthy Work”.
