28.08.2007 Detentions and Trials in Niasvizh
In the night of 24-25 August in Niasvizh the police detained four youth activists: Nasta Azarka, A.Dubski, A.Zhukau and Nasta Palazhanka. They were charged with hooliganism for writing ‘Belarus is Sacred’ on a fence. The activists had to spend the rest of the night at Niasvizh district police department. The police ignored Palazhanka’s demand to call a defense lawyer.
23.08.2007 Brest: Three 'Hramada' Activists Detained after Trial of Pavel Seviarynets
On 22 August Leninski district court of Brest heard a case against the political leader Pavel Seviarynets. Mr. Seviarynets was charged with repeated violation of the rules of holding mass actions within 1-year term (part 3 of article 23.34 of the Administrative Code) and sentenced to 15 days of jail.
23.08.2007 Punitive Psychiatry Remains Unpunished
The college board of Mahiliou regional court with a deputy chair of the court Ihar Troshka at the head turned down an appeal of a public activist Krystsina Shatsikava against the verdict of Leninski district court of Mahiliou that had refused to abolish a ruling of the local prosecutor’s office against bringing a criminal case on the use of punitive psychiatry. The College Board did not give any explanations concerning its verdict.
22.08.2007 Pavel Seviarynets Sentenced to 15 Days of Jail
On 22 August Maskouski district court of Minsk held the third sitting on an administrative case against a political leader Pavel Seviarynets. The trial was to have taken place on 20 August, but was postponed first to 21 August and then to 22 August because of absence of the police witnesses. All this time Mr. Seviarynets was kept in Brest isolator.
21.08.2007 Aliaksei Shein’s Complaint Turned down
Minsk city court turned down an appeal of a co-chairman of the organizing committee of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Party Aliaksei Shein against a verdict of Frunzenski district court of Minsk sentencing the activist to 15 days of jail under article 23.34 of the Adminstrative Code (violation of the order of holding mass actions or pickets).
21.08.2007 Activist to Be Tried for Demanding Customs Declaration Blank in Belarusian
On 30 August in Homel a trial of a public activist Siarhei Siamionau will take place. Siamionau is charged with refusal to fill in a customs declaration, which is considered as ‘disobedience to legal demands of a customs officer’.
17.08.2007 Mikita Sasim Arrested for 10 Days
The press-center of Charter’97 managed to talk to the youth leader Mikita Sasim on mobile phone. Sasim said that he was detained by people in mufti. They seized him, twisted his arms and threw into a car. They behaved very rudely, tore his shirt, hit him in the back and legs several times and threatened to beat him.

10.08.2007 Larysa Shchyrakova and Zmitser Zhaleznichenka Fined for ‘Illegal Business Activity’
On 9 August the Economical Court of Homel Region found the organizers of a concert of Belarusian bards Larysa Shchyrakova and Zmitser Zhaleznichenka guilty of illegal business activity and sentenced them to pay 310 000 rubles (about 141 US dollars) fine.
09.08.2007 Hrodna: Franak Viachorka Is Justified
On 8 August Leninski borough administrative commission of Hrodna considered an administrative report which had been composed against the youth activist Franak Viachorka on 9 July. That day he was detained for watching how people posted stickers against destruction of architectural monuments in Hrodna.
09.08.2007 Minsk: Pavel Baranouski and Aliaksei Shydlouski Put Behind Bars again
The youth activist Aliaksei Shydlouski has been sentenced to five more days of jail. He was taken to Partyzanski borough court of Minsk right from the detention center where he was serving his 15-day arrest.
07.08.2007 Homel: Court Upholds Prohibition of Picket against Repeal of Benefits
On 1 June Homel activists of the Party of Communists of Belarus intended to hold a picket against repeal of benefits. However, Homel city executive committee did not authorize the action. As a result the party members sued the committee. Tsentralny borough court of Homel found the refusal of the committee to authorize action legal. Bear in mind that during the last three months the city authorities refused to authorize different pickets and meetings five times.
07.08.2007 Minsk City Court Satisfies Suit of Expelled Student
On 15 May 2007 a four-year student Yury Aleinik was expelled from the Management Academy of the president of Belarus for alleged truancy. During his study Aleinik demonstrated an excellent progress. He stated that the expulsion was a revenge for his public position and political views. In April 2007 he participated in collection of signatures under a public appeal to the Chamber of Representatives for saving of social benefits to students. The activist also chairs Minsk regional organization of Frantsysk Skaryna Belarusian Language Society.

03.08.2007 Brest Regional Court Takes Side of State Official
On 2 August Brest regional court rejected the cassation complaint of the former workers of Brest regional TV Liliya Drahachynskaya and Volha Shutava.
