Education used as weapon against young people in Belarus
MINSK - Anastasia Shuleika was expelled from Belarus State University on 14 February for speaking out against President Alexander Lukashenko.
Yulia Vinakhodava, activist of the Young Front opposition movement, is facing expulsion from Vitsebsk State College of Technology for taking part in a picket of solidarity with imprisoned activist Siarhei Kavalenka outside the city’s pre-trial prison, www.charter97.org reports.
Aliaksandr Saldatsenka, activist of the European Belarus opposition movement expelled from Minsk State Linguistic University for involvement in rallies of solidarity with political prisoners, has received replies from the Ministry of Education and Minsk Partyzanski District Prosecutor’s Office concerning a warning issued by the University rector Mrs. Natallia Baranava.
On 6 February, three activists of the European Belarus opposition movement were expelled from Minsk State Linguistic University, following their conviction for involvement in a series of rallies of solidarity with Belarusian political prisoners.
“Young Front” activist Uladzimir Yaromenak has learned about his expulsion from the university after serving 15-day arrest for an action of solidarity near the Read Church on 19 December. The guy received a telephone call from the university and was told he could take back his documents.
