The Supreme Court of Belarus didn’t grant the appeal against the verdict to the activist of the “Young Front” Eduard Lobau, according to which he was sentenced to 4 years in high-security prison, as the testimonies of the “victims” in the case were allegedly trustworthy.
Human rights defender Anastasiya Loika voiced this information to RFE/RL with reference to Zmitser Dashkevich. “He has been kept in a one-man cell in the Hlybokaye colony for three months already. He had been repeatedly put into penal cells in the previous prisoners. Human rights defenders are concerned with threats to his life and health and demand that the authorities immediately stop all provocations against him and provide him with adequate life conditions,” commented Anastasiya Loika.
An activist of human rights organization “Platform” Yury Chyhileichyk was shown in a program on the Belarusian state TV. He tells that Sannikau had problems in the colony because of Dashkevich. And a BT worker (an off-screen voice) has gone go to even greater lengths and expanded that idea, “Nasha Niva” writes.
Civil activist Anzhela Kambalava, head of the Baranavichy city branch of the United Civil Party, maintains written correspondence with many political prisoners who have been convicted in connection with the protest action of 19 December 2010.
The political prisoner needs his knee to be operated. He has written about that in his letter to his godmother Natallia Yasevich. In his another letter from prison the “Young Front” leader Zmitser Dashkevich tells about the danger he faces. He calls the last 9 months behind the bars the most difficult in his life. For the first time the political prisoner mentions he want to demand a knee surgery.
The parallel event “Ales Bialiatski: symbolical case of violation of political and political rights in Belarus after the presidential elections of 2010” took place within the framework of the yearly Human Dimension Meeting of the OSCE. It was organized by a coalition of human rights organizations including the Norwegian Human Rights Committee, Polish Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, World Organization against Torture, Amnesty International, Human Rights House Foundation, Human Rights Watch, Front Line, the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and the Human Rights Center Viasna. It was attended by former political prisoner Aliaksandr Atroshchankau, presidential candidate Vital Rymasheuski and leaders of the democratic parties of Belarus.
