The College Board on civil cases of Brest oblast court upheld the prohibition of the March of Petty Hooligans by Brest city executive committee.

16.12.2008 Young Front members receive reprimand

Young Front activists Tatsiana Shaputska and Nasta Loika, law students of Belarusian State University, were reprimanded for participation in an unsanctioned picket near Dzerzhynski’s monument on November 7th.

03.12.2008 Pickets near monuments to Lenin are banned

Minsk city executive committee didn’t permit holding a picket near a monument to Vladimir Lenin in Independence square on 8 December.

02.12.2008 Brest: lying picket is dispersed

A citizen of Brest Zhana Abramava protested against her unlawful eviction from the inherited apartment at the central square of Brest, opposite the building of Brest city executive committee. The civil activists Yury Bakur and Ivan Stasiuk participated in the picket as well.

02.12.2008 Vitsebsk: human rights activist is not allowed to hold pickets

Pavel Levinau, activist of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee, intended to hold a number of pickets dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Universal Human Rights Declaration. He addressed Vitsebsk authorities with the request to authorize the actions and received a refusal signed by the deputy head of Vitsebsk city executive committee Pavel Losich.

10.11.2008 Minsk: ‘Young Front’ activists detained for action near KGB office

Seven members of the Young Front opposition youth group were grabbed by police during a demonstration near the headquarters of the Committee for State Security (KGB) in Minsk on 7 November. The young people were standing in front of the KGB founder Felix Dzerzhinsky's bust, holding a sign that said, ‘Communism must be brought before tribunal!’

05.11.2008 Astravets: civil initiative against construction of nuclear power plant

The organizing committee of the civil initiative against construction of a new power plant has been established by seven citizens with a teacher of geography Mikalai Ulasevich at the head. The committee has issued a note of protest against the plans of the Belarusian officials to construct a new power-plant on the territory of Narach-Vileika natural reserve. They believe that as a result this place can become another ‘Chernobyl hole’ on the map of Europe.

04.11.2008 Homel: court justifies bans of opposition’s pickets

On 3 November the deputy head of Tsentralny district court of Homel Siarhei Shytsikau upheld the refuse of Homel city executive committee to authorize pickets which the opposition intended to hold within the frame of the electoral campaign. The applications for authorization of pickets were file by the democratic activists Andrei Tolchyn, Piatro Kuzniatsou, Natallia Shchukina and Alexander Protska.

04.11.2008 Court turns down suit of Brest oppositionists

Leninski district court of Brest considered the complaints of Brest opposition activists Zhana Abramava and Vital Symonik. Abramava and Symonik appealed against the ban of their picket by Brest city executive committee. They intended to hold the action on 7 May near the Belarus cinema in Savetskaya Street and dedicate it to the anniversary of disappearance of the ex-minister of interior Yury Zakharanka. Bear in mind that a number of high state officials are suspected in relation to this crime. The official ground for the executive committee’s refusal was that the only authorized place for mass actions in Brest was the Locomotive stadium.

14.10.2008 Brest citizens are not allowed to demand return of social guarantees

The local authorities are doing everything possible to smother the civil initiative for returning of the liquidated social guarantees.

02.10.2008 Salihorsk: Young Front activists are punished for anti-war picket

The commission on affairs of minors warned Illia Shyla, a 16-year old participant of a picket against the Russian intervention in Georgia, which had been held near the Russian Embassy on 11 August.

08.09.2008 Baranavichy: two applications for pickets

Citizens of Baranavichy have submitted to Baranavichy city executive committee two applications requiring permission to hold pickets in connection with injustice during the electoral campaign. The people want to protest against non-registration of a writer, ambulance doctor, member of the Party of Communists Belarusian Alexander Halkevich, who intended to run for parliament at Baranavichy-Eastern electoral constituency #6.

04.09.2008 Brest: pickets in memory of missing politicians are banned

On 3 September the court of Leninski district of Brest dismissed the complaint of Andrei Sharenda and Vital Symonik against a prohibition to hold a picket on 7 July, dedicated to the 8th anniversary of Dzmitry Zavadski’s abduction.

04.09.2008 Mahiliou: police draw violation report on wheel-chair disabled

On 2 September in Mahiliou the wheel-chair disabled Uladzimir Vusikau picketed the city executive committee. He demanded that he was restored in the line for getting an apartment as a disabled and compensated the cost of the sanatorium voucher.

02.09.2008 Brest: Raman Kisliak asks permission for picket dedicated to disappearance of Hanchar and Krasouski

The human rights activist Raman Kisliak has addressed Brest city executive committee to obtain permission for holding a picked dedicated to an anniversary of the disappearance of Viktar Hanchar and Anatol Krasouski. He intends to hold the picket on 16 September.
