11.10.2008 Salihorsk: police beat human rights activist

On 9 October in Salihorsk the human rights activist Yana Palyakova was beaten up by unknown people. She was beaten again at the police department. She said in an interview to RFE/RL she had been attacked at 5 in the evening.

Today Aliaksandar Kazulin has been released from Vitsba-3 prison. He was serving the 5.5-year prison term, allegedly for hooliganism, after challenging Aliaksandar Lukashenka during the presidential election. Kazulin was granted pardon by special edict, signed by Lukashenka on Friday.

03.03.2008 Aliaksei Marozau Detained for Solidarity with Aliaksandr Kazulin

On 2 March, at 7 p.m. the police detained an activist of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (headed by the political prisoner Aliaksandr Kazulin) while hanging out a banner with the demand to release Kazulin near the politician’s house in Starazhouskaya Street in Minsk. The police detained Pavel Marozau with the words: ‘Stand still, bitch, or we will shoot!’. He was guarded to the remand prison in Akrestsin Street and spent the night there. His parents were not informed. Today the activist has been taken to Tsentralny district court of Minsk.

26.02.2008 Minsk city executive committee made no decision on Iryna Kazulina’s burial

Minsk city executive committee said to the relatives of political prisoner’s wife Iryna Kazulina, the decision on allowing burial “is not within their competence.” The Kazulins family is sending a request to the Council of Ministers.

26.02.2008 Service in memory of Iryna Kazulina to start on February 26, 8.00 p.m.

Iryna Kazulina’s burial service will stake place on February 27. The visitation will take place at the St. Simon and St. Helene Catholic Church (the Red Church)from February 26th, 8 p.m. till February 27th, noon.
