The Human Rights Center “Viasna”

Viktar Malochka, retired police lieutenant-colonel, applied to the Prosecutor General, A.Kaniuk, with the request to hold a repeated check-up concerning his unlawful detentions in summer 2011 and false testimonies given by officers of the Salihorsk District Police Department.

Vitebsk resident Pyotr Ivanov, a citizen of the Russian Federation, representative of the party "United Russia" and the activist of the civil campaign "Speak Truth," was fined 140,000 rubles for allegedly using foul language. He had been detained for handing out leaflets calling for solidarity with Siarhei Kavalenka.

The human rights activist has been detained outdoors in Minsk and guarded to the Maskouski District Police Department of Minsk. The reasons for the detention aren't known yet.

Pyotr Ivanov, a citizen of the Russian Federation, was detained for handing out leaflets calling to support an imprisoned oppositionist from Vitsebsk in court.

Trials of youth activists continued at the Maskouski District Court of Minsk despite the New Year Holidays.

Ivan Salokhin and Uladzislau Varanetski were detained in the evening of 11 December, while trying to hang out the banner “Freedom to political prisoners!” on a bridge.

Iryna Tryhubava, an activist of the Free Trade Union of Steelworkers, was detained about three weeks ago near the porch of a house in the Yubileiny syburb.

On 7 December the second hearing on the case of Mikalai Iliiushonak took place at the Barysau City Court. Illiushonak had been detained on 21 September, while collecting signatures for holding a People’s Assembly in Barysau. He was kept at the police station for three hours and his car and apartment were inspected.

On 12 November the second People's Assembly was held in many cities and towns of Belarus. Some of its participants were detained preventively, and some others – during the assembly.
