Hrodna activists want to picket for fair elections without Lukashenka
Five civil and political activists of Hrodna applied for holding pickets "For Fair Elections without Lukashenka" in different parts of the city on 15 May.
On 1 May former presidential candidate Dzmitry Uss held an outdoor assembly with the aim to establish an initiative group for preparation of the draft law for amending the Electoral Code of Belarus. More than 100 people from different parts of Belarus became members of the group.
Mahiliou Kastrychnitski District Court has started hearing the lawsuit entered by former chair of local election commission Mrs. Iryna Ziamtsova, following an alleged case of label by two observers Mrs. Larysa Shukaila and Liudmila Kavylkina, the BelaPAN news agency reports.
Homel activist Marya Bahdanovich, who was running for the local council in 2010, has submitted a complaint to the UN Human Rights Committee, arguing that chair of the city’s election commission Mr. Paroshyn was involved in election violations.
A Homel resident Volha Liamtsava took an active part in the electoral team of the presidential candidate Uladzimir Niakliayeu during the recent presidential election. He distributed informational leaflets, took part in electoral pickets and observed the election.
Numerous individual human rights defenders and organisations have been subjected to police and judicial harassment, ill-treatment, searches and raids carried out at their offices and homes, since the unrest which followed the Presidential Elections of 19 December 2010.
On 6 September the research and educational establishment Movement Forward lodged a lawsuit with the Supreme Economical Court asking to reverse the verdict of the cassation instance of the Minsk City Economical Court of 25 August that had left standing the verdict of the court of 29 July 2010 #608-19/10.
