The Minsk apartment of Ales Lipai, director of the BelaPAN news agency, has been searched by financial police this morning. According to human rights activist Valiantsin Stefanovich, the search was conducted by the Department of Financial Investigations of the State Control Committee as part of a criminal case opened against Lipai.

It is still unknown what charges Ales Lipai is facing.

It was a search conducted by financial police that opened the criminal case against chairman of the Human Rights Center "Viasna" Ales Bialiatski back in August 2011.

UPD. After the search, Lipai was brought to the DFI’s central office for interrogation and released a few hours later.

Ales Lipai faces charges under Part 2 Art. 243 of the Criminal Code (large-scale tax evasion), the State Control Committee’s website said in an official message.
