Human rights activist appeals breach of law by Chair of Mahilioŭ Regional Election Commission

Mahilioŭ Regional Election Commission violates the law "On appeals of citizens and legal entities" by giving Russian-language replies to Belarusian-language appeals.

In this regard, Mahilioŭ human rights activist Aliaksei Kolchyn filed a complaint about the unlawful actions by the Chair of the Mahilioŭ regional election commission to the head of the Central Election Commission and the Prosecutor of the Mahilioŭ region.

The human rights activist asks to prosecute the chair of the Mahilioŭ regional election commission Berastava for violating the law, as well as to oblige her and other members of the Commission to continue giving answers in accordance with the law "On appeals of citizens and legal entities".

Aliaksei Kolchyn is an observer of the "Belarusian Helsinki Committee" in the Lieninski district territorial commission in Mahilioŭ. July 31 he filed a complaint with the Mahilioŭ regional election commission in the Belarusian language. The complaint concerned the non-publication of the lists of members of election commissions of Lieninski and Kastryčnicki districts of Mahilioŭ in the local state-owned newspaper "Viesnika Mahiliova".
