However, in order to find the offenders and bring them to justice, Ihar Barysau was advised to file a claim in Ukraine, where the website voskresinfo.com is located, which posted several offensive articles about the social democrat.

“A written response signed by the deputy head of the Kastrychnitski district police department Kalatsilnikau says that the police sent a request to the Ministry of the Interior of Ukraine, and received explanations what to do. They said that the person who was insulted should file a civil claim for defamation,” says deputy chairman of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada).

The Belarusian police, in turn, say the online publications had signs of an offense under Art. 9.3 (“insult”) of the Administrative Code and promised that if they found the persons who violated this article, they would be brought to administrative responsibility.

voskresinfo.com is a website that is posting defamatory information about some 20 pro-democracy activists of Mahiliou. Some of them – Barysau, Karankevich, Burakou and Kastsusiou – wrote complaints to the police to find detractors and bring them to justice.

It should be noted that Ihar Barysau requested in his statement that access to the website was restricted for Belarusian users.
